Your body goes through a lot after becoming a mom – now it’s time to focus on you. A mommy makeover lifts and reshapes areas that have changed over time by combining procedures like a tummy tuck, liposuction, or breast enhancement. Being informed about recovery will help you set realistic expectations and plan for the best results.
Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Chiaramonte makes your experience a priority. He’ll support you before, during, and after your procedure at Bella Cosmetic Surgery in National Harbor, Maryland.
The First Few Days
The first few days after surgery are usually the toughest. You can expect swelling, bruising, and soreness in the treated areas. If your procedure includes a tummy tuck, you may have limited mobility at first, and we may place drains to help with fluid buildup.Â
Prescription medications can help manage discomfort, but you’ll need to take it easy. Plan to have someone around to help with basic tasks (including child care).
Most patients need to take at least one to two weeks off work to rest and heal. During this time, it’s important to follow all post-op instructions from Dr. Chiaramonte.
Weeks Two to Six
As you heal, swelling will start to go down and it will be easier to move around. You’ll likely feel ready to return to work after about two weeks, as long as your job isn’t too physically demanding.Â
Light activity is usually fine, but lifting anything heavy or doing intense exercise is still off-limits. At this point, your scars will begin to heal, though they may look red or raised at first.
Long-Term Healing and Results
It can take several months to fully recover, and final results will become more noticeable as swelling goes down. A tummy tuck will leave you with a flatter stomach, breast procedures will improve shape and volume, and liposuction will better define your curves. The scars will fade over time, though they can take up to a year to fully mature.
To get the best results, you need to give your body the time it needs to heal. Be sure to follow your post-op care instructions, avoid strenuous activity until your surgeon gives the go-ahead, and maintain your weight to help protect your results.
