Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon In National Harbor Accepting New Patients Near Washington DC, Arlington, Fort Washington, Maryland & Virginia

The products of increased age in the skin are apparent to nearly everyone. Over the years, our skin is altered in several ways: it becomes less thick and less elastic, no longer adheres as well to underlying flesh, and can be affected adversely by the forces of gravity. Additionally, the underlying folds of fat, muscle, and bone lose thickness as well. The quantity of elastic flesh and the levels of collagen that appear in our dermis (the underlying levels of skin) also decline.

One area where these changes are especially apparent is the upper arm. Brachioplasty, or arm lift, helps Maryland and Northern Virginia residents lift and tighten up loose skin in the upper arms, resulting in a firmer, more youthful contour. Dr. Chiaramonte encourages you to request a consultation by calling 301-567-6767 if you are considering an arm lift in Maryland and DC so that you can learn more about this body sculpting procedure and receive a professional opinion about your cosmetic needs.

In searching for a doctor to perform my breast augmentation, I came upon Bella Cosmetics through a google search for plastic surgeons in Maryland. I corresponded with Denise, the coordinator for Dr. Chiaramonte. She was always very friendly, professional and helpful, and the rest of the staff were very amiable and welcoming. During my first (and second, and third) meeting with Dr. Chiaramonte he was very informative, patient and understanding. It is great that he takes the time out of his busy schedule to sit down for complimentary consultations. Although I ultimately decided against the surgery (for the time being), I had a great experience with Dr. Chiaramonte, as well as the staff at Bella Cosmetics. Would recommend to anyone!

Dr. Chiaramonte exceeded my expectations. I am a month post-op from having the Bella Body Lift. Dr. C and his knowledgeable staff were patient and attentive to my questions and concerns. He provided realistic expectations for achieving the desired hourglass figure that was hidden under the markings of birthing two children and lousy eating habits. The figure has since returned better than ever. I am grateful to Dr. C for restoring my self-confidence and will certainly consider him for future services.

What Are The Benefits Of A Brachioplasty Procedure?

Some of the benefits you’ll see after your arm lift surgery in Maryland and DC include:

  • Better symmetry and proportional correspondence in the shape of your arm.
  • Increased self-assurance and ease in fashion.
  • A pleasing and showable look within the first seven days becomes even more natural over the next three to six months.

It is important to remember that your entire body will eventually show signs of natural aging, including the arm lift area. The effects of this procedure, however, are usually very durable, and most patients are happy with the effect of their surgery.

What Should I Expect At My Arm Lift Consultation?

At your surgical consultation in Maryland and DC, Dr. Chiaramonte will discuss your concerns and what you wish to achieve through Brachioplasty. It is beneficial to bring a list of all medications and supplements you are taking, as well as a list of questions. This is your opportunity to ask them all! In addition to reviewing your medical history, the doctor will explain how the procedure works, the type of anesthesia involved, and what to expect in terms of outcome and recovery.

How Is Arm Lift Surgery Performed?

Your arm lift will be performed on an outpatient basis under IV sedation.

Dr. Chiaramonte starts by demarcating the piece of surplus skin. An anesthetic is then given and surgical cuts are performed on the interior surface and underneath your arm, most often in a Z-shaped line. Skin removal will usually produce an elliptical or triangular shape. Frequently, fat tissue is removed via liposuction at this part of the procedure. The incision may continue from your armpit to an area as low as your elbow.

While the surplus fatty tissue and skin are eliminated, the residual skin is gently stretched and stitched into position. Sometimes, a medical drain is used to empty extra fluid from the surgical site, letting skin cling more firmly to the flesh below. The sutures are then covered in bandages. From start to finish, the procedure usually takes about two hours. After a supervised time in the recovery room, you are usually allowed to go home the same day.

Does Brachioplasty Surgery Cause Scarring?

Brachioplasty incisions are made on the underside of the arm, where resulting scars will be the least noticeable. It is impossible to achieve completely hidden incisions because they run from the armpit to the elbow. Once the skin has healed after surgery, you may begin a scar treatment program, such as silicone scar gel, to optimize the scars’ appearance as tissue healing continues. It can take some time, but Maryland and DC arm lift scars usually heal to a very light line that is barely visible.

What Will The Recovery Process Be Like After An Arm Lift?

We do our best to prepare each patient in Maryland and DC for their arm lift recovery. It is important to keep in mind that the timeline and other aspects of healing can vary depending on several factors, such as your unique pain tolerance and your overall health.

In general, Brachioplasty recovery is relatively quick. In week one, expect mild to moderate pain. Take prescription medication as directed to avoid unnecessary stress. The arms are bandaged and wrapped during the first week, so the range of motion is limited. You may have drains to help prevent fluid buildup in the surgical area. If you do, you will receive clear instructions for emptying them. Because your hands may swell after Brachioplasty, you should not wear rings or bracelets.

By the end of the first week, you may feel comfortable enough to manage pain with over-the-counter medication. Swelling and bruising may be prominent for the first one to two weeks. Your post-surgical follow-up may be scheduled a week to 10 days after surgery. At this appointment, bandages and drains may be removed, along with stitches. While mobility is improved at this point, it is necessary to avoid stretching or lifting objects. You may shower, wash your hair, and, as comfort and your occupation dictate, return to work.

You may need to wear compression garments for 4 weeks. Between 4 and 6 weeks, you may gradually resume exercise. After 6 weeks, we expect to clear most patients to resume all normal activities, including heavy lifting and activities like golf.

How Long After An Arm Lift Procedure Will I See Results?

Your arms will look slimmer immediately after your arm lift. However, the results of surgery will be obscured by bandages initially, then swelling for several weeks. At about the six-week mark after surgery, you will begin to truly appreciate your new, sculpted arms.

Are There Risks To An Arm Lift Procedure?

There is some level of risk to all surgeries. The rate of arm lift complications is extremely low when the procedure is performed by a skilled and experienced surgeon in Maryland and DC. Patients are encouraged to thoroughly research their surgeon’s training and background before scheduling their procedure. Most potential complications are treatable and do not result in long-term problems. Possible arm lift risks include:

  • Anesthesia risks
  • Post-surgical complications such as bleeding, infection, or blood clot
  • Persistent arm pain or sensitivity
  • Poor incision healing and noticeable scarring
  • Hematoma
  • Seroma
  • Prolonged numbness or tingling
  • In addition to choosing an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon, patients should follow all postoperative instructions closely and allow sufficient time for rest and recovery.

How Much Does An Arm Lift Procedure Cost?

The average cost for arm lifts in Maryland and DC at Bella Cosmetic Surgery is between $7,000 and $9,000. Of course, this is an average range, and your estimate could vary depending on several factors. To learn more about your options and candidacy for the procedure, contact us today to schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Chiaramonte.

How Do You Sleep After An Arm Lift?

It is most comfortable to sleep on the back after arm lift surgery in Maryland and DC. Doing so prevents unintended stretching of the incisions. To assist with swelling and comfort, you may sleep with your head slightly elevated, as well as your arms. You can do this comfortably by placing one or two pillows beneath each arm. Doing so may also help you remain on your back through the night.
