What To Expect After Your Tummy Tuck

When it comes to creating a tightened core and flat stomach, we see many clients opt for a tummy tuck to achieve the look they want. The procedure, also known as abdominoplasty, has become increasingly popular in recent years. It is a body contouring procedure that tightens abdominal muscles and removes excess fat and skin and fat around the abdominal area.

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Chiaramonte has performed countless abdominoplasties and reminds his patients that the procedure isn’t over when you leave the clinic. Post-operative care and rest are essential to achieving your desired results without complications and unnecessary pain.

After Your Tummy Tuck Procedure

Just like any surgical procedure, be prepared for some swelling and discomfort. Feeling pain for the first few days after surgery is normal. Dr. Chiaramonte will prescribe appropriate medication to help manage the discomfort. You should also expect some swelling and bruising around the surgical site. This will usually improve within a week or so.

Because of swelling, you aren’t likely to see your full results immediately, but this should also quickly subside. Most patients wear a compression garment for 4-6 weeks after surgery to help support the abdomen as it heals.

Getting Back To Normal Life

Be sure to give yourself the time and space you need to heal. It is essential to avoid strenuous activity during this time and follow post-op guidance carefully. Most patients can return to work within 2-3 weeks of their surgery, depending on the nature of their job. You should be able to resume all normal activities, including exercise, by 6-8 weeks post-op.

Dr. Chiaramonte and your care team at Bella Cosmetic Surgery will work with you to monitor your progress and ease you back into a regular routine. It is also a great time to practice healthy habits like drinking enough water, eating a nutritious diet, and getting plenty of sleep.Remember, taking time to rest, recover, and heal is essential to your procedure. Dr. Chiaramonte will review the recovery process during your consultation and help answer any questions.
