Pre-Treatment Instructions
- Discontinue use of Retin-A, AHA, BHA (glycolic, lactic, salicylic acid) containing products 1 week prior to treatment.
- Avoid sun exposure 1 week prior to your treatment.
- No spray tanning or self-tanners 2 weeks prior to your treatment.
- If you are prone to herpes simplex outbreaks, such as cold sores, consult your provider on ways to treat prior or whether the procedure is appropriate for you.
Post Treatment Care
- Cold packs, Aloe Vera gel or any other cooling preparation may be used to ease temporary discomfort.
- Use a gentle cleanser and a gentle moisturizer for the next week, your provider will recommend products for you to use.
- Wait one week to resume retinol, vitamin C and hydroquinone products.
- Quick tepid showers are recommended. If areas are treated other than the facial area, hot baths are not advised for 24 hours.
- If the skin is broken or a blister appears, apply an antibiotic ointment and call our clinic for further advice. The area should be kept lubricated with Aquaphor or post-treatment cream recommended by your provider to prevent crusting or scabbing of the treated
area. - Sun exposure is to be avoided for 3 weeks after treatment. Total sun block, not sunscreen, should be applied if it is impossible to stay out of the sun. If multiple treatments are needed, a commitment to stay out of the sun is necessary. With sun exposure, there are certain minor complications that may occur. These complications will be discussed with you during your consultation.
- Make-up can be applied starting the following day, as long as the skin is not broken, and make-up does not contain any irritants like Vitamin C or Retin A. Make-up may also serve
as an additional sun shield. Please discuss the make-up you use with the provider before using it. - Do not resume waxing or exfoliating products until 2 weeks after treatment. If you are undergoing a series of peels or resurfacing, please ask the nurse how you should proceed with skincare products.
