How Long Do Cosmetic Injectable Results Last?

The length of time your cosmetic injectable results will last largely depends on which injectable product you choose and the skin issues you want to address. Our plastic surgeon, Dr. Chiaramonte, offers an array of injectables such as BOTOX® Cosmetic. Some of these options last 3-4 months while others may last up to two years. It’s important to remember that all cosmetic injectables will require repeat treatments to maintain your ideal look.

There are two forms of cosmetic injectables: dermal fillers and neuromodulators. Dermal fillers are used to plump up or “fill in” areas of your face that may have developed fine lines, wrinkles or scars. Neuromodulators are products such as BOTOX® Cosmetic, Xeomin® and Dysport™ that are used to temporarily freeze the nerve activity of muscles that cause wrinkles to form.

BOTOX® Cosmetic and other neuromodulators typically last 3-6 months, depending on how your skin responds to the product. We recommend neuromodulator treatments be done every 3-4 months to maintain your results.

The durability of dermal filler results varies based on what the filler is made of including:

  • Hyaluronic Acid (HA) fillers such as Belotero® and Restylane® last six months to a year before they’re naturally absorbed by your body.
  • Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) fillers such as Radiesse® use microscopic calcium particles to reduce deep lines and wrinkles and last up to 12 months.
  • Poly-L-lactic Acid fillers include Sculptra® Aesthetic and are used for deep facial wrinkles. These dermal fillers can last more than two years in some patients.
  • Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) dermal fillers contain collagen and utilize tiny spheres that live under your skin to provide long-term support for firm, youthful skin. PMMA products include Bellafill® and can last indefinitely.
