Considering an endoscopic forehead lift or brow lift in Washington D.C. and Southern Maryland

If You're Considering Endoscopic Surgery

Maryland Endoscopic SurgeryConcepts in facial rejuvenation over the years have changed dramatically. In the past, there was only one option: the standard facelift. Eventually eyelid and brow lift/forehead lift surgery became part of the standard surgical treatment for facial enhancements. We have now learned that we no longer want or need to just address the laxity of the soft tissues and the wrinkling with a facelift and removal of eyelid fat and skin. Now we look at the entire facial complex from the skin all the way down to the facial skeleton.

In looking at the facial skeleton as the framework for your image, Dr. Chiaramonte, a board certified plastic surgeon serving the Maryland area, can evaluate, manipulate and improve the bony soft tissue interface. With the use of a special instrument much like a microscope called an endoscope, he can accomplish the goal of offering additional facial enhancement options.

The most common area for its use is in the forehead and brow region. Endoscopic surgery at the brow region allows the brows to be repositioned in a more youthful shape and location. In addition, it further diminishes wrinkling in the brow as well as around the eye from overactive muscles.

This procedure is one example of some of the technological advances that have occurred in cosmetic surgery. We hope this information is helpful to you in understanding this procedure. Dr. Chiaramonte would be happy to provide you with an individual and confidential consultation to determine if this procedure is right for you.

The Best Candidates for Endoscopic Surgery

Any one or combination of the following conditions may indicate that you are a good candidate for an endoscopic forehead lift:

  • Sagging or low position of the eyebrows, creating a tired or sad appearance
  • Deep horizontal creases across the forehead
  • Frown lines, or furrows, between the eyebrows and sometimes across the top of the nose

A forehead lift can improve all of these problems. It may often be performed at the same time as a facelift, which removes excess skin and tightens muscles in the mid and lower face. If there is significant skin overhang in the upper eyelids, or puffy bags beneath your eyes, eyelid surgery may be recommended in addition to a forehead lift.

The Surgery

In each of the endoscopic techniques (forehead and brows along with mid-facial region), the procedure is performed under intravenous sedation and local anesthesia. Usually three to five, one-half-inch incisions are made in order to allow both visualization with a small scope and to surgically manipulate the tissue with small, narrow instruments. When the tissues have been released and repositioned, they need fixation. In the forehead region, small screws are utilized that are placed into the outer layers of the skull to allow for firm fixation. In a mid-facial procedure, deep fascia in the temple region allows for adequate fixation of the tissues.
