This patient is a 50-year-old, self-employed woman that lives in the Washington, D.C. area. She heard of our plastic surgery office after doing research on plastic surgeons in Washington, D.C. on the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) Web site. She maintained a strict regimen of working out and eating right, but was unhappy with her flat and unflattering buttock region. She wanted the appearance of a very contoured area that still looked real and flattering to the rest of her shape. After hearing her concerns, I encouraged her to consider having a fat transfer, which is a procedure that involves taking a person’s own fat from one region and placing it into the desired area. I also gave her the option of placing an implant in the area, but after consideration, she decided that she preferred the fat transfer procedure. This procedure consists of small incisions made to the buttocks and an injection of fat through numerous small tunnels. A total volume of 870cc of fat was injected to achieve the desired symmetry and fullness. Afterwards, the patient was placed in a compression garment and awakened. The patient recovered quickly from her cosmetic surgery at her home in Washington, D.C. She was pleased with the results and had very minimal downtime. She was grateful to find a procedure that helped accentuate what she does in the gym.
