This 71-year-old patient from Oxon Hill, Maryland, desired to smooth out her sagging eyelid tissues as well as the excess skin and fat on her upper neck. She also had wanted to find out more about her options for lip augmentation. She researched Washington, DC plastic surgeons to find one who could offer the face lift results she wanted, and decided to meet with me to find out how to achieve her goals. After I evaluated her needs, I recommended that she undergo a series of smaller-scale procedures along with her facelift, including a limited brow lift, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) on the upper and lower lids, and fat grafting to the lips. I had recommended a limited brow lift instead of a full brow lift because her eyebrows were already at an optimal level, and raising the brow more would position the eyebrows too high. The blepharoplasty procedure would allow me to smooth out her upper-eyelid tissues to the correct degree, without making excessive adjustments to her upper face. In my face lift procedures in Maryland I generally perform liposuction of the neck region and tighten the neck muscles before moving on to the upper face. I begin with incisions near the hairline, through which I elevate facial skin and sometimes muscle, then remove excess skin. Finally, I will correct the "jowls" by performing liposuction of the problem fatty tissue through tiny incisions made near the corners of the patient’s mouth. The patient recovered well from her multiple surgeries. She had no signs of complications, although she did experience some temporary soreness in the neck region. The procedures gave her the well-rested and refreshed appearance she desired, and she is very happy with her new look.
