This woman came to the office in need of a Maryland plastic surgeon to help her tighten her excess facial skin so that she could achieve a younger, smoother look. Specifically, she was concerned with the look of her lower face, which she felt made her look heavier and older than she should. She scheduled an appointment with me to assess her options for a facelift to correct her loose neck skin and decrease some of the patchy fat that had appeared in that area.

In her examination I noted that her skin was in very good condition, which is ideal for a facelift. Patients who have loose, less firm skin can also achieve good results with some techniques, but in general the results look better and last longer when the patient has healthier, firmer skin that will respond better to surgical adjustment. For this patient's procedure I tightened and removed excess soft tissue from the lower face, especially the neck and jaw line. In cases like this, I will often remove some of the lower-facial fat through liposuction as well.

This patient recovered well. With African-American patients sometimes the scars will appear more noticeable initially before fading to a more natural look, but with this patient any signs of her surgery are already very difficult to notice. Her side view photos show how much smoother the skin around her chin and mouth appears after surgery, and the without so much excess tissue below her neck her jaw line appears smoother, younger, and more defined. She is very satisfied with her face lift in Maryland.
