How is CoolSculpting Done?

Maryland Plastic Surgeon serving Washington DC, & Virginia including Alexandria and Fairfax.

How is CoolSculpting Done? | Maryland, Washington DCMany men and women have stubborn fatty areas that no amount of dieting or exercise can get rid of. CoolSculpting is a non-invasive, FDA-approved procedure, which freezes and eliminates your unwanted fat. CoolSculpting is best for areas such as your “love handles” where fat can easily be suctioned using the CoolSculpting appliance. The process is straightforward, requires little to no downtime and can be completed in as little as one hour, depending on the number of body areas being treated.

The CoolSculpting treatment process involves three steps:

1. Your Initial Consultation

During your CoolSculpting consultation at our Maryland office, Dr. Chiaramonte will determine whether you’re an ideal candidate by going over your body goals and checking if you have the right amount of fat to benefit from CoolSculpting. You may be better suited for another body contouring procedure such as liposuction.

2. Your CoolSculpting Procedure

CoolSculpting takes one hour per treatment area. You may experience some discomfort when the appliance latches onto your skin, but this usually subsides within several minutes. The dual cooling plates safely kill your fat cells through what’s called “Cryolipolysis,” and over the span of three weeks to two months these dead cells will naturally be eliminated through your lymphatic system. Once removed, these fat cells are gone forever. Your skin will likely be numb and slightly swollen afterward, but you can return to your normal activities immediately.

3. Your Follow Up Appointment

You will have one to two follow up appointments to check on the progress of your CoolSculpting treatment. This usually falls within 6 weeks after your procedure. Some of our patients require additional treatments to reach their desired results.
